It is hoped that this exhibition is the inaugural event of what will be the major annual feature for UK motoring art and artists. In the UK there has been a vacuum of such events since the closure of the art marquees at the Goodwood speed events several years ago. There have been several promotions which have tried to build up support but all have been overtaken by the need to charge commercial rates for the display space and lack of suitable sponsors.
This Art of Motoring Exhibition was promoted and sponsored by the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. (The Royal Automobile Club is a high-class London Club and not the vehicle breakdown organisation). It was held over two floors at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery on Pall Mall quite close to the Club. This was timed to coincide with the London Regent Street Motor Show. One of London’s major shopping streets is closed to vehicular traffic and static displays of cars from veteran to concept are arranged along the road. This event takes place on the day before the London to Brighton veteran car run.
