ART FITZPATRICK AT 92
"Pedal to the metal" is the only way to describe Fitz's approach toward his upcoming 92nd birthday. Currently a custom body Packard he designed 71 years ago is winning "Best Design" and other "Best of" awards at Concours and CCCA meets around the country. The recent Gold Creativity Award for Illustration of his "Fins and Chrome" series of postage stamps demonstrates that he continues to create and produce at full throttle.
An upcoming video documentary by Gregory Berkin Productions titled The Pebble Beach Experience will feature clips from an interview in the AFAS Art Tent with Fitz and John Lasseter,
of Disney-Pixar talking about Fitz's contribution in helping make the hit film CARS.
The current issue of the British motoring magazine Influx has an interview article titled "Art Fitzpatrick: Original Mad Man." It describes him as a definitive artist of the American auto industry's boom time, creating some of the key images of the chrome-clad dream of the American automobile.
"Influx caught up with an irrepressible artist who helped define the way that the post war motorcar was created and consumed – now in his tenth creative decade while the American auto industry shudders from the closure of one of the brands he helped create: Pontiac."
They do have a way with words, don't they?

FRITZ AND "DEUCE OF SPADES"
Not only is she featuring a selection of his paintings in her film, but Producer/Director Faith Granger enlisted AFAS member Tom Fritz to create two powerful pre-release posters evoking the gritty passion in her soon-to-be-released movie, "Deuce of Spades".
The posters, entitled "Johnny Callaway" and "Last Race" are the first in a much-anticipated series of poster images developed by Fritz. For fans who truly appreciate what poster art means, these works are now part of the film's iconography and history, making them as important as the film itself in some respects. For more information, see the "Posters" section on the artist's website. |
